My guest this week is Marty Rubin, President of SpectraMedia, which provides marketing solutions primarily in the banking industry. Marty truly walks the talk and is a natural “Networker” and Business Developer. As he says, — “I show business people how to deliver their message in the 21st century way”.
Here are some tips from my friend, Marty Rubin:
“Hello – I’m Marty Rubin, a long-time friend of Andrea and a product of over sixty years of selling on the road.
Yes — we came together through Networking. One of the hundreds of great opportunities that would never have happened without that magic.
I spend a good deal of time talking to young business people about how to conduct themselves in a selling situation or in an office environment so that they become the exception and succeed.
In today‘s world “buying in” to some old fashioned activities will make you exceptional. Here are some powerful actions that will separate you from the pack and make you more visible and likeable.
*Smile at everyone — It makes people react favorably. It is an introduction, a compliment and an ice-breaker. It is happy.
*Make Eye Contact. It compliments a person and acknowledges their worth because you are focused and listening to what they are saying. They immediately like you.
*Posture. Stand up straight and tall (also when sitting) even if you are 5′ 2 or 6’ 7. When you carry yourself in a confident manner with an energetic aura you are sending a non-verbal message that says “I am a person of value so I just might have something of value to say.”
*Your Handshake must be solid and firm – not a bone-crusher and certainly not a “dead fish.” It should show strong character and self confidence.
*Dress – wear appropriate clothing for the particular business environment or occasion. Always be neat, clean and acceptable. It is all part of the complete picture.
*Your Body Language must be controlled – relaxed and fluid with no nervous movements, no folded arms, no hands in pockets, no chewing on the inside of your mouth. In other words no distractions that would divert your prospect’s attention.
*”How Are You?” responses must be positive, up and happy; “wonderful, super, great, excellent, very good”. Never just say “Okay” or “I’m hanging in there”. Never complain about personal feelings like lack of sleep, terrible traffic or a pain or an ache. No one really cares and no one enjoys a down, negative person.
*Always bring a ray of sunshine to a Presentation or your Work Place and people will like you and want to be with you.
*Remember people’s names. Dale Carnegie wrote, “the sweetest sound anyone enjoys hearing is the sound of their own name.”
*Try really hard to remember names whether in business or social realms and use them. Greet people by name and inject their name in your conversation. Unconsciously those people will like you a little more than normal because you have respected and acknowledged them.
A clever combination of the old and the new in today‘s world is a winning combo.
Thank you…
