Networking Nugget #103 Give Sincere Compliments Daily

Make a goal to look for positive attributes in the people you meet and strive to give five compliments a day. When you look for them, you will find them—then take the action step to do it. If possible begin every new conversation with a compliment. It is a wonderful way to start when you may be at a loss to break the ice. Everyone likes to hear a compliment when it is sincere.

Giving a sincere compliment shows you are focused and paying attention to the other person.

You start to create a Thank you Culture

You see that compliments are not just statements, they can also come in the form of an action.

You begin to recognize every single person you meet knows something you don’t and you want to learn

We can ALL learn from one another. Compliment the person teaching you. I have a journal of new apps, classes, projects, procedures….. from people I have met along the way. Invaluable.

There are several compelling reasons to make giving compliments part of your daily life.

  • You can absolutely make someone’s day. While it may only take you 30 seconds, it can stay with them for days or longer.
  • It will increase your positive outlook. When you start to actively LOOK for nice things to say about people you will notice more nice, positive, things around you and in your life.
  • “Give to give…” Things have a way of coming back over time when you least expect it. That’s the way the   Universe works .
  • You will ENJOY it. When you give a genuine compliment, without any expectation, it makes you feel good.
  • Everyone also enjoys hearing the following when it is said with sincerity and authenticity:
  • Thank you for
  • I’m proud of you
  • I believe in you
  • I trust you

Receiving a compliment has equal power to giving one. You can acknowledge when someone has truly acknowledged something unique about you.

What has been your favorite compliment, and why did it mean so much to you?
