In Great Company at the Rotary District Conference

Frances_Larry_Julio_David_Andrea

This past weekend, I had the great opportunity to be part of one of our Rotary conferences and to give a Career Builder workshop on Time Management.

All the presenters were terrific –and we all learned allot–especially from the young man to my left in the picture above–Julio Alvarez who taught us everything to know about Social Media Communications. I learned a ton more then I already knew.

Also in the picture from the left is France Wong-Lee, President Elect of the Downtown NY Rotary; Larry Severino, MD; President Elect of Rotary of White Plains and right in the middle, David Del Monte who is the President Elect of the New York City Rotary Club and who works 24/7 to make our club terrific!

It was a wonderful weekend and to learn a little about What Rotary Is, look at the 4-Way Test.

From the earliest days of the organization, Rotarians were concerned with promoting high ethical standards in their professional lives. The 4-way test is one of the most widely printed and quoted statement of business ethics.

It was created by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor in 1932 when he was asked to take charge of a company mired in depression -caused financial difficulties. He drew up a 24 word code of ethics for all employees to follow in their professional lives. It became the guide for sales, production, advertising and all relations with dealers and customers and the survival of the company is credited to this simple philosophy.

Herb Taylor became the president of Rotary International in 1954-55 and the 4 Way Test was adopted by Rotary in 1943 and has been translated into more than a hundred languages and published in thousands of ways. It consists of the following questions:

" Of the things we think say or do",

1. Is it the TRUTH?

2. Is is FAIR to all concerned?

3. Will it build GOODWILL and  BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
