I recently visited my dear friend, Trudy Mitchell, who I consider my Godmother and was always my mother's best friend throughout life. Although women don't always like to tell their age, she is someone that when I reach 90+, I want to be just like her– active, driving and going out every day for lunch.
During my weekend visit to Evansville, Indiana, another friend found this holiday gift mug that my wonderful father, Dr. Paul Nierenberg gave out to all of his patients and the year was 1970.
When I read all the "Rules of Health" that my Dad had inscribed on the mug, I smiled realizing that he was always way ahead of his time and that all of his remarks are exactly what we hear today on living a great life.
1. Do not smoke
2.Do not drink alcoholic beverages
3.Do not gluten
4.Prevent physical decline-keep exercising
5.Keep your diet lean
6.Get 7-8 hours of sleep
Of these, I am sure you follow many or all and adapt the others.
It just shows, that the more things change, the more they remain the same.
Also– didn't my Dad have a cool holiday gift to keep his name and his 'best practices' for health in front of his patients!
