This past Sunday morning, I was watching a special on CBS news on Alex’s Lemonade Stand which came about from a little girl who had childhood cancer and was determined in her short life to help others.
In 2000, she was 4 years old and Alex Scott announced to her parents that she was going to have a lemonade stand to raise money to help ‘her doctors’ find a cure for kids with cancer. The idea was put into action by Alex and her older brother Patrick, when they set up their first "Alex’s Lemonade Stand for Childhood Cancer" on their front lawn in July of 2000.
For the next four years, despite her own deteriorating health, Alex held an annual lemonade stand to raise money for childhood cancer research. Just by watching Alex and her inspiration, thousands of stands and other fundraising events were held across the country.
On August 1, 2007, Alex died peacefully at the age of 8–she had raised over $ 1 million for childhood cancer research in her very short lifetime.
Her legacy continues and to date, her foundation has raised over $19 million for childhood cancer research.
Alex’s original thought–was to fight childhood cancer -‘one cup at a time’ and now there are over 8000 Alex’s stands across the country.
I can’t put into words the emotions that one feels when they see how this little girl gave of her life and inspired millions–take 3 minutes and watch this video.
You will be inspired to help.

Alex’s story is very moving, and her “lemonade stand is still raising money. I know that Rita’s Ice has partnered with them to help raise money. You can donate at all Rita’s stores.
