The Man In the Window

About four years ago, I was walking on 52nd and 3rd Avenue and looked in the glass corner window of an office and noticed that right on the credenza was another Networking book–not mine.

I thought–I will take a copy of my book–(at the time, "Million Dollar Networking" had just been published ) and I walked into the bank and said to the assistant of my now good friend, Carl Gambino, Group Director-SVP of Signature Bank– " I see that 'the man whose office is in the corner window- has a book that is similar to mine –and I would like to give him a copy of my book".

Having no idea what the reaction might be, the assistant looked at me and said "wait here"… and the next thing I knew I was talking with Carl and gave him my book.

Over the next two years, the book remained in the window and many people called, emailed and got in touch with me asking, 'how did you  get your book in that window?"

For me, it was a very lucky break–not only did I have my book getting great visibility, I got to know Carl Gambino who is the ultimate relationship marketer and net worker. Carl is always helping other people-creating and building connections and is an all around great, great person!!

He also has a famous name and when people say–' is he THE real Carl Gambino– I say—'of course–he certainly is –The Real Thing— however he is the legal one! 🙂

When you are looking for a great banker–turn to Carl.

What a great story, Andrea. It proves that if you don’t ask you don’t get. Most people are willing to do a favor — within reason — if you ask. I think most of us are just too timid and don’t want to be seen as “pushy.”

What a great story. Pays to be fearless (with the goods to back yourself up).
    Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Andrea,
Came across your story about Carl quite by accident. Carl is joining us for the Execs luncheon this week and I was looking for some backround info that I could share with the group when I introduce Carl.
    Regards,
    Ivan Mann
