I have just spent a lovely weekend with my sister, Meredith in her home in Sarasota, Florida where besides having our usual fun, we had a very enlightening experience when we attended the Yom Kippur services at the Chabad synagogue.
The service was extremely meaningful and uplifting and it was a time of deep reflection and introspection of all that has happened in the last year as we atoned. It is amazing how much you learn about yourself when you sit in any House of Worship and take the time and determination to be totally present.
A terrific surprise and a major highlight was listening to the motivational sermon of Alan Veingrad who is an Ex-Dallas Cowboy and Green Bay Packer lineman and now is an Orthodox Jew who talked about rediscovering his spiritual roots through the guidance of the Torah. He travels the world sharing his views and passion combing 'football and faith'. He was an excellent, entertaining speaker that that truly made you think through his stories and passion.
My visits in Florida with Meredith always fly by too fast and this one seemed like a flash.
I do believe I am going home though with more inspiration and enlightenment to reflect back on the High Holy days this week.
