Remembering My Wonderful Father

Parents_2

Reflecting this week on Father’s Day, I think of my wonderful father who always said everyday to me: "Give everyone you meet a smile and a handshake".

I specifically remember his wonderful words of wisdom daily and this week, his image seems to be appearing with me everywhere I turn – which is a frequent occurrence and especially today on Fathers Day.

When I was writing my first book – "NonStop Networking", I remember that my dear Mom who was also my best pal and I had found this list that Dad had created and clearly lived by everyday whether he was at his office in Illinois practicing medicine or with his family and telling us his thoughts on the ‘market’ after reading that day’s Wall Street Journal.

Here is his list and everything he said still rings through.

  • Listen with your inner ear. Hear what is said with the heart rather than what is said with words.

  • Listen to the concerns of others.

  • Know when it is important—just to listen.

  • Communication is very hard work.

  • Hone your skills.

  • State your thoughts clearly and briefly.

  • Remember to smile, not scowl.

  • Above all, be reasonable and understanding.

  • Be interesting and interested.

  • Be friendly and enthusiastic.

  • Have a sense of humor.

  • Be human.

  • Laugh and grin!

I aspire daily to live my life like my wonderful parents taught me.

Take a look at this picture – although quite a few years old, the grin and emotions are everlasting!

If you are lucky enough to have your dear parents with you–make sure to give them a big hug today and as frequently as possible!!

    Andrea,
You clearly live your life as an example of your father’s guiding words. I know that your mom and dad are SO proud of you and have an angel with you everyday.
