Chattanooga Choo Choo

This past week took me to the great city of Chattanooga, which is truly delightful and one of the friendliest cities I have visited.

I had the opportunity to be the keynote speaker at the Tennessee Valley Fundraising Institute which was put together by The Center for NonProfits, Association of Fundraising Professionals and the Greater Chattanooga Planned Giving Council.

It was a great day with a variety of speakers talking on best practices, new trends and oppotunites in the non profit world.

How I got to this great event was by the power of networking! Two years ago, I had the opportunity to speak at the Association for Fundraising Professionals national conference in Dallas and got to meet Cynthia Fagan, the Director of Development for the Partnership for Families, Children and Adults www.partnershipfca.com

It was also at the AFP that I also met my first connection to the Boy Scouts of America, Mark Mosier.

Cynthia was a very gracious host and I also met some other terrific people including Sheila Moore, the Interim Executive Director for the United Way Center for Nonprofits.

My whole visit was also highlighted by my tour around the city on the shuttle bus where I had a nice conversation with the bus driver, Johni and she ended up taking me on my own private  tour around the city—imagine that happening on a New York City bus!

My only challenge was leaving Chattanooga where the flight delays and the summer weather coming back to New York made a fairly easy trip turn into an 8 hour delay.

The travel was nothing compared to the terrific time I had and the wonderful hospitality!
